NHR@SW at NHR Conference 2026

From September 14 to 17, 2026, the NHR community gathered in Paderborn for NHR Conference 2026, hosted at the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum. NHR@SW was strongly represented throughout the four-day event, contributing to the scientific program, poster sessions, workshops, working groups, and the NHR Networking Event.

The conference combined two days dedicated to scientific exchange with two days focused on networking and collaboration across the NHR community.

Seven NHR@SW contributions to the scientific poster session

During the scientific conference on September 14 and 15, researchers from NHR@SW presented seven posters, showcasing the broad range of scientific and methodological work supported across the center.

The contributions covered topics ranging from molecular simulations and AI for science to energy-aware computing, reinforcement learning, particle physics, and algorithmic differentiation:

  • Diffusive dynamics of intrinsically disordered proteins in the condensed phase
Mahesh Yadav, Friederike Schmid, Lukas Stelzl

  • Artificial Intelligence for Molecular Mechanism Discovery
Hendrik Jung, A. Arjun, Christian Leitold, Peter G. Bolhuis, Christoph Dellago, Gerhard Hummer

  • Energy-Aware AI Workloads on Heterogeneous HPC Clusters via Adaptive GPU Frequency Control
    Karan Rajshekar

  • Constrained collaborative optimization of charged particle tracking with multiagent reinforcement learning
Tobias Kortus, Ralf Keidel, Nicolas R. Gauger, Jan Kieseler

  • A QGP Trigger based on Convolutional Neural Network for the CBM Experiment
    Artemiy Belousov, Ivan Kisel

  • Algorithmic Differentiation in Large-Scale Scientific Computing
    Hon Wa Yew

  • Adaptive Molecular Dynamics Framework for Viscosity Prediction and Shear-Thinning Analysis of Lubricant Molecules
    Hongyu Gao

Together, the seven contributions highlighted the diversity of research within NHR@SW and demonstrated how high-performance computing supports scientific discovery across a wide range of disciplines.

Two days of networking and collaboration

On September 16 and 17, the focus shifted to the NHR Networking Event, which brought together employees from the NHR centers, NHR Graduate School Fellows, and participants from NHR working groups and projects.

The networking program provided many opportunities to exchange experiences across centers, discuss joint activities, strengthen existing collaborations, and develop new ideas for the NHR community.

A particular highlight was the workshop organized by the NHR | Women in HPC, NHR|WHPC, Chapter. Three young women shared personal perspectives on their paths into HPC, creating an open discussion around careers, diversity, and community within high-performance computing.

A strong NHR@SW presence in Paderborn

Colleagues from across NHR@SW participated throughout the four days.

Our NHR@SW group photo includes Alexander Blatt, André Brinkmann, Valentin Churavy, Andreas Henkel, Hans-Christian Jankowiak, Jonas Korndörfer, Katja Meier, Sarah Neuwirth, Ulrich Schielein, Felix Spanier, Michelle Theisen, Joachim Totzeck, and Alexander Wilhelmi.

Also representing NHR@SW during the conference were Artemiy Belousov, Hongyu Gao, Hendrik Jung, Tobias Kortus, Christian Meesters, Karan Rajshekar, Mahesh Yadav, and Hon Wa Yew, together with further colleagues from across the center.

NHR Conference 2026 demonstrated not only the breadth of research and expertise within NHR@SW, but also the importance of bringing the wider NHR community together. Scientific exchange, shared experiences, new contacts, and discussions across institutional and disciplinary boundaries are an important foundation for continued collaboration within NHR.

We thank the NHR-Verein, and the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC²), for organizing and hosting NHR Conference 2026, and everyone from NHR@SW who contributed to four successful days in Paderborn.
