Scalable Storage Competition and S³ Storage Summer School

NHR@SW and NHR-NORD@Göttingen / GWDG are jointly organizing the second Scalable Storage Competition (SSC), accompanied by the S³ Storage Summer School.

The Scalable Storage Competition gives participants the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with modern HPC storage systems and explore different approaches to building, configuring, and evaluating scalable storage environments.

Scalable Storage Competition

Participants can join either as a team or individually. The competition provides access to a dedicated infrastructure consisting of storage and compute nodes on which participants can develop and evaluate their own solutions.

During the competition, participants will:

  • set up a cluster and storage or file system of their choice
  • run established I/O benchmarks and applications
  • tackle realistic, I/O-intensive scenarios
  • compare their results against a provided baseline
  • document their solution
  • receive an evaluation from HPC storage experts

The competition provides an opportunity to deepen knowledge of storage architectures, I/O performance, and system configuration while working with real HPC infrastructure. It also creates opportunities for exchange with other participants and experts from the HPC community.

Applications are still open, even though the competition website currently indicates otherwise.

S³: Storage Summer School

The accompanying S³ Storage Summer School is currently taking place and provides participants with knowledge and practical experience related to scalable HPC storage.

Topics include parallel file systems, storage architectures, benchmarking, performance assessment, and tools that are also relevant for the Scalable Storage Competition.
