Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) has been awarded up to €9.6 million from the State of Rhineland-Palatinate to expand and modernize its high-performance computing infrastructure within Germany’s National High-Performance Computing (NHR) program. With an additional €3.65 million contributed by JGU, a total of around €13.2 million will be available through 2030 to renew and upgrade HPC systems.
The new cluster will be housed in JGU’s new data center and operated with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, providing reliable, scalable resources for research ranging from physics and biotechnology to AI methods and large-scale data analysis. As part of NHR Süd-West, the system will support researchers at universities across Germany.
