The latest PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe) Scientific and Innovation Case for Computing in Europe 2026-2034 has been released. The report highlights how scientific computing has become a foundational pillar across research domains, and how Europe’s future research ecosystem will depend on world-class computing infrastructure, coordinated scientific effort, and strong links between simulation, data-driven methods, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing.
We are especially proud that four of NHR@SW’s PIs have co-authored the fourth edition of the report, which offers both a progress report and a forward-looking roadmap: Prof. Hartmut Wittig (JGU Mainz) served as Editor-in-Chief, with key contributions from Prof. Luciano Rezzolla (GU Frankfurt), Prof. Bertil Schmidt (JGU Mainz) and Prof. Boris Kaus (JGU Mainz).
Their involvement reflects the broad scientific expertise represented within NHR@SW, from computational physics and astrophysics to Earth system modelling, simulation, data-intensive research, and high-performance computing methods.
Congratulations to PRACE and all contributors on this important publication.
