Prof. Brinkmann Appointed to Lead HPC and NHR@SW at Saarland University

As of 1 January 2026, Prof. Dr.-Ing. André Brinkmann will join Saarland University (Universität des Saarlandes) as Professor of High-Performance Computing. Prof. Brinkmann, currently Professor of Computer Science at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, will assume the scientific leadership of the newly founded “Center for Scientific and High-Performance Computing” (CSHPC) and will lead the NHR@SW activities at Saarland University.

Prof. Brinkmann’s research focuses on efficient algorithms for high-performance and cloud computing as well as scalable storage systems, including optimized file systems, intelligent caching strategies, and energy-efficient storage architectures for future exascale and GPU-based systems. His work has been supported by major funding bodies such as the DFG, the BMFTR, and European Union programs. At Saarland University, he will further strengthen HPC and AI-oriented research through close collaboration with the Saarland Informatics Campus (SIC) and the diverse user communities of the CSHPC.
